What's included
What our accessible units provide
Our DDA compliant portable toilet units are specifically designed for users with mobility requirements — not just a wider standard unit.
Physical access
Wide access door suitable for wheelchair users. Low or ramped threshold entry. Turning space inside for wheelchair manoeuvrability. Anti-slip flooring throughout.
Support fixtures
Properly positioned grab rails to assist transfer. Lowered hand basin at wheelchair-accessible height. Flush mechanism at accessible height. Emergency call system available.
Hygiene standards
The same high hygiene standards as our standard units — regular servicing, cleaning and restocking. Accessible units are prioritised in our servicing schedules to ensure they remain in excellent condition.
Placement advice
Our suppliers will advise on the best placement for accessible units — flat ground, proximity to event areas, clearly signposted. Getting this right makes a real difference to accessibility in practice.
Legal requirements
When is an accessible toilet required?
Under the Equality Act 2010 and related guidance, event organisers and employers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure services are accessible to disabled people.
Events open to the public — at least one accessible unit is strongly recommended for any public event. For larger events, the ratio should reflect your expected attendance of disabled visitors.
Construction sites — CDM regulations require welfare facilities to be accessible to all workers. If any worker has a disability, accessible facilities must be provided.
Public sector contracts — many public sector and larger commercial contracts specifically require DDA compliant facilities to be in place.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Do the units meet DDA requirements?
Yes — all our accessible units meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act and current Equality Act provisions. They meet BS 8300 guidance for accessible toilet facilities where applicable.
How much space do accessible units need?
Accessible units are larger than standard portables. You'll need a flat area of approximately 2.5m x 2m for the unit, plus space for approach and turning. Our suppliers will advise on the exact dimensions of the specific unit being supplied.
Can accessible and standard units be supplied together?
Absolutely — and this is the most common arrangement. Most customers hire a combination of standard portable toilets with one or more accessible units as part of their overall package. We can quote for combined requirements in one go.
Is the accessible unit serviced differently?
Accessible units follow the same servicing schedule as standard units — weekly for site hires, as required for events. We ensure accessible units are always prioritised in servicing runs.
Can they be delivered to sites with difficult access?
Yes — our suppliers carry a range of delivery vehicles and can usually accommodate difficult access sites. When you enquire, let us know about any access restrictions and we'll make sure the right vehicle is arranged.
